A sorority at Slippery Rock University received several awards from its national organization for demonstrating excellence. The Alpha Sigma Tau’s Alpha Pi Chapter at SRU was recognized for the 2024-26 biennium with the following awards at Alpha Sigma Tau’s 46th National Convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota, June 11-14:
- Founders Award, the highest honor a chapter can receive, honoring a chapter that exhibits excellence in multiple facets of sorority, campus and community life.
- Alumnae Engagement Excellence Award for demonstrating excellence in alumnae programming, communications and connections.
- Chapter Branding Excellence: Marketing & Communications Award for exhibiting the best use of social media, website content and additional marketing mediums to promote their chapter and the sorority experience.
- Elizabeth Wilson Operational Excellence Award for demonstrating a commitment to chapter management and outstanding operational performance.
- Growth Excellence Award for exhibiting a culture of excellence and commitment to membership recruitment.
- Retention Excellence Award for exhibiting a culture of excellence and commitment to membership retention.
- Health & Safety Excellence Award for exhibiting an outstanding commitment to risk prevention, education and management.
The Alpha Pi Chapter at SRU was one of only three Alpha Sigma Tau collegiate chapters to receive the Founders Award, and it received the award for a second straight convention.
“These awards are a reflection of the growth of our chapter, in numbers and in strengthening our sisters’ sense of belonging,” said chapter president Daphnie Knapp, a junior early childhood education major from Wyalusing (Wyalusing Valley HS). “Our sorority focuses on empowering our sisters through recognition, support and our values while giving them a community and home, not just at SRU but across the country.”
Last year, the chapter hosted events that raised funds for AST’s national philanthropy, Dress for Success, as well as the Victim Outreach Intervention Center in Butler.
“Service and sisterhood are at the forefront of our organization, as it is of the utmost importance to uplift our sisters and community,” Knapp added. “Being a member of this outstanding organization has given me the confidence I have always needed and given me the opportunity to lead a group of women that astonishes me every single day.”
The Alpha Pi Chapter of Alpha Sigma Tau was established at SRU in 1966. Since then, more than 900 women have been initiated into the Alpha Pi Chapter of Alpha Sigma Tau. Today, the chapter continues to provide women at SRU with a community of belonging, personal and professional development opportunities, and an outlet to contribute to the local Slippery Rock community.
