A member of a group that was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize will be presenting an inspiring and educational message at a virtual event hosted by Slippery Rock University. Jiro Hamasumi, one of the youngest survivors of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan, in 1945, will share “A Survivor’s Tale” in a public event via Zoom at 8 p.m., April 13.
Hamasumi, who was exposed to the A-bomb in utero, is the deputy secretary general of Nihon Hidankyo, a grassroots organization of Japanese atomic bomb survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki that advocates for the elimination of nuclear weapons and support survivors.
Awarded the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize, the group educates the public on the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of nuclear warfare through personal testimonies.
The event at SRU is sponsored by the SRU College of Liberal Arts and the Academic Affairs Division.
The public can register online.
