Cindy Adams Dunn, the Pennsylvania secretary of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, addressed a crowd of students at SRU’s Russell Wright Alumni House, April 17.  

Pennsylvania’s top government official who oversees state parks and forests visited Slippery Rock University, April 17, with a message about conservation. Cindy Adams Dunn, the Pennsylvania secretary of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, spoke to SRU students at a public event that included a panel discussion featuring SRU alumni who work for the DCNR and state agencies.

The presentation, titled “Conserving Pennsylvania: Biodiversity, Resiliency, and the Next Generation of Stewards,” was part the SRU Biology Class of ’78 Seminar Series at the Russell Wright Alumni House.

The discussion focused on current conservation efforts in state parks and forests, while also highlighting the role students and universities have in shaping the future of conservation in Pennsylvania. Alumni panelists included:

  • Corie Eckman, ’21M, park manager, Pine Grove Furnace State Park, DCNR.
  • Jake Weiland, ’05, park manager, Point State Park, DCNR.
  • Emily Borcz, ’04, regional supervisor, Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps.
  • Brandi Miller-Parrish, ’05, environmental education specialist, Jennings Environmental Education Center, DCNR.
