Slippery Rock University is a top destination for hundreds of community college transfer students, guiding them to an affordable bachelor’s degree and career success. The cost for five exceptional community college students just got a lot more affordable at SRU, thanks to a scholarship from Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education.
The following students were among the 29 top-performing community college transfer students bound for State System universities in fall 2025 who were awarded free tuition:
- Alexandru Afloarei, a junior management major from Pittsburgh, who is transferring from the Community College of Allegheny County.
- Mae Alley, a sophomore strategic communication and media major from Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania Cyber Charter HS), who is transferring from the Community College of Allegheny County
- Austyne Mann, a sophomore criminology and criminal justice major from Darlington (Blackhawk HS), who is transferring from the Community College of Beaver County
- Molly Milich, a sophomore history major from West Sunbury (Moniteau HS), who is transferring from Butler County Community College
- Sennett Purcell, a junior psychology major from Cabot (Knoch HS), who is transferring from Butler County Community College.
These students were selected by their community colleges and named to the prestigious All-Pennsylvania Academic Team for 2025. The State System and its 10 public universities partnered with the 15 community colleges in Pennsylvania to offer this program, helping more than 800 students during the last two decades.
Community college students who earn their associate degrees are guaranteed admission as juniors at State System universities, and approximately 95% of their transfer credits are accepted. More than 200 students from community colleges transfer to SRU each year.
In 2023, the presidents of all State System universities and community colleges in Pennsylvania strengthened their collaboration to help students achieve their educational goals, reduce student costs and bolster the workforce.
Many of the students who will receive their free tuition for two years at State System universities are pursuing careers in high demand. For example, Purcell will attend SRU to prepare for a career as a child psychologist.
