Slippery Rock University’s annual Giving Day is March 21. For this one-day campaign, SRU alumni, students, employees and friends of the University are encouraged to make a gift in support of SRU student scholarships, clubs, organizations, academic programs, athletic teams and more.
These gifts provide enhanced student learning and growth opportunities across campus. Challenges sponsored by the SRU Foundation and the Slippery Rock Student Government Association allow groups to earn additional funds by receiving the most gifts or having the most donors.
Through generous donations from the SRU community and beyond, the University has raised nearly $3 million over the last eight years. Last year’s Giving Day raised more than $870,000 given by 1,591 donors, both record levels for the annual event that started in 2017.
“Our campus community is the heart of Slippery Rock University and Giving Day allows our alumni and friends, near and far, to show their support for the people and programming that were important to them during their time at The Rock,” said Teresa Glasgow, assistant director of annual giving and donor communication. “Giving Day is an opportunity for everyone to pay it forward to current and future students, especially for those whose personal and professional paths were shaped at SRU or received scholarships that made their experience at The Rock a reality.
“We’re incredibly lucky to have such a supportive Rock family around us that believes in our students and makes our campus community better with every gift. As someone who received scholarships during my time at The Rock, I ask everyone to join me in making a gift to support our students in all aspects of their education this Giving Day.”
Here’s how people can participate:
- GIVE ON GIVING DAY: Make online contributions on SRU’s Giving Day webpage on March 21. When completing the online donation form, donors can designate their gift to any area on campus they would like to support. SRU alumni, friends, and local community can also join us in the Smith Student Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to make their gift, participate in Giving Day activities, and visit the gaming lounge.
- GIVE IN PERSON: Visit the University Advancement team in Old Main, Room 100, to make in-person donation, now through March 21.
- GIVE NOW: Make an early gift on the Giving Day webpage. All gifts made before 11:59 p.m., March 21 will count toward SRU’s Giving Day totals.
- In addition to donating online, Giving Day participants can contribute by phone by calling 724.738.2004 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or by mail to: SRU Foundation, Inc., 1 Morrow Way, 100 Old Main, Slippery Rock, PA, 16057.
- BECOME AN ADVOCATE: Donors can create a profile on the Giving Day website and become an “Advocate,” which allows participants to track the number of clicks, gifts and dollars they personally generated for the campaign. Advocates can also create challenges and matches, as well as Personal Pleas, which are short videos explaining why they give and encouraging others to join them in supporting the campaign.
- SPREAD THE WORD: Participants are encouraged to use the hashtag #SRUGivingDay on social media and share stories about why they give and spread awareness about SRU programs, organizations and projects.
