Krislyn Green never considered a career in the financial services industry, but after her 10-week internship with BNY this summer, she not only sees the industry as a possibility but as a reality.

Green, a Slippery Rock University senior management major from Butler (Butler HS), first connected with BNY from a message on the recruiting and networking app Handshake, where a recruiter encouraged her to apply for the 2025 summer internship program at BNY’s Mellon Center office in Pittsburgh.

“I never saw myself working in the financial services industry, but I really enjoyed it and made several connections over the summer with professionals in the industry,” Green said.

From June 2 to Aug. 8, Green worked in the company’s global Learning and Leadership Development function within BNY’s People Team. Her responsibilities ranged from gaining hands-on experience with training platforms and corporate learning strategies to co-leading the development and launch of manager forums at two U.S. locations. She also learned about new AI-powered tools being developed at BNY, including a personal coaching platform for employees, and she supported projects that used artificial intelligence to analyze large datasets and present insights for managers.

“The high-performing culture they had and building connections with my peers is what I really took away from the experience,” she said. “My biggest takeaways from the internship are the value of connections and how AI is transforming the business world. AI is here to stay.”

Green said her most memorable experiences included meeting BNY CEO Robin Vince and Chief Administrative Officer Alejandro Perez and presenting to senior leaders as part of the company’s Intern Case Competition, which focused on climate change solutions.

The BNY internship was not Green’s first experience. Green has worked as a human resources intern with the Alliance for Nonprofit Resources in Butler since May 2024, where she learned the fundamentals of human resources functions. That role, combined with her coursework at SRU, gave her the confidence to succeed at BNY.

“What prepared me for this internship was my past internship experience and education at the School of Business at SRU,” Green said. “They have an outstanding curriculum and outstanding professors. What I learned, and what I would tell other student thinking about doing an internship, is that you have to always seize every opportunity and make connections with others.”

More information on the management program at SRU is available on the department’s webpage.
