To the University community,
At the heart of our campus is a shared commitment to safety, trust and mutual respect. As the University continues its investigation into the recent bomb threat, this is a reminder that actions like swatting (falsely reporting an emergency to trigger a response) can cause real harm and disruption to our educational mission and place an unnecessary strain on the emergency services that are meant to protect us all.
Because of the serious nature of swatting, it’s not only a violation of our Student Code of Conduct, but also against federal and state laws. Our goal is always to foster a safe and supportive environment, and we take steps to ensure accountability when that trust is broken.
If a student is involved in swatting, the University will work closely with campus and local law enforcement to support a full investigation.
Education, empathy and accountability will keep our campus safe and strong. Let’s continue to look out for one another as we begin our semester together.
Also, I want to take this opportunity to thank our custodial and facilities staff, University Police and everyone involved for their efforts throughout the day addressing these concerns.
As always, if you see anything suspicious, please contact University Police at 724.738.3333.
