Slippery Rock University is making its mark on the national higher education landscape in U.S. News & World Report’s 2027 “Best Colleges” rankings, earning a place in the National Universities category. In previous years, SRU was highly ranked on the Regional Universities list, but because of new reporting methodologies SRU is now ranked among National Universities.
U.S. News & World Report placed SRU in the National Universities category based on the University’s new Carnegie Classification as a “Professions-focused Undergraduate/Graduate-Doctorate Medium” that was announced in 2025. U.S. News defines National Universities as institutions that “offer a wide range of undergraduate majors as well as master’s and doctoral degrees, with many placing a strong emphasis on research.”
SRU received the following positions in the “Best Colleges” rankings:
- #128 for Top Public Schools.
- #5 for Top Public Schools in Pennsylvania.
- #227 for Top Performers on Social Mobility.
- #15 for Top Performers on Social Mobility in Pennsylvania.
- #236 for Best National Universities.
