The Slippery Rock University council of trustees conducted a special virtual meeting, June 23, to vote on three executive actions. The council approved a proposed Bachelor of Applied Science in construction management degree program that will be forwarded to the state-level for final approval later this year.
SRU began offering a Bachelor of Science in construction management in Fall 2025 and the new BAS model would create a career-advancing pathway for professionals seeking an online degree program that honors both apprenticeship learning and opportunities to earn industry-recognized certificates to enhance their BAS degree. The collaborative design of the proposed BAS program leverages SRU’s agreements with local community colleges, trade organizations and other industry partners.
Once approved by the Office of the Chancellor in Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education, SRU could start enrolling students into the program as early as December 2026.
In other action items, the trustees approved a revised Enrollment Management Orientation Fee of $200, which secures a student’s spot for the incoming class and funds necessary activities and services such as on-campus family orientations and student identification card production and maintenance. SRU’s previous Orientation Fee was $90, not including a charge of $15 per guest at orientation. The new fee includes a limit of two guests and will help financially sustain the services and resources that SRU offers.
The council also approved the following quarterly meeting dates for the 2026-27 academic year:
- Sept. 17-18, 2026.
- Dec. 10-11, 2026.
- March 25-26, 2027.
- June 10-11, 2027.
Tuesday’s special virtual meeting was conducted because the above action items were presented but not voted on at the trustees last quarterly meeting on June 5.
