Vocalists at Slippery Rock University will compete to win one of three scholarships at the Chad Williamson Memorial Scholarship Competition, 4 p.m., Oct. 25, in the Swope Recital Hall.
More than 25 students will perform up to two pieces for judge Sarah Luebke, assistant professor of music at Bowling Green State University. Luebke will pick the top three vocalists from a group of finalists to win first, second and third place. Vocalists will sing with piano accompanist James Lesniak, associate pianist at the Pittsburgh Opera.
“It’s an exciting night that showcases the talent of all our voice students from all three of our voice studios,” said Christopher Scott, professor of music and department chair.
For 33 years, the Chad Williamson Memorial Scholarship has honored the Williamson family. Chad Williamson, a Slippery Rock Area High School graduate, planned to attend SRU to study music, but was killed in a motor vehicle accident before his first semester.
Williamson’s parents, Karen Legato, ’91, and Fred Williamson, founded the scholarship in 1992.
Tickets for the event are $10 for general admission and $5 for students and can be purchased at sru.edu/tickets.
More information about the Chad Williamson Memorial Scholarship is available on the SRU Foundation website.
