Slippery Rock University students learned about the challenges and health care services surrounding a child who had a heart transplant. And they heard it directly from the child’s family members.
As part of an Interprofessional Education Event, March 26, at the Smith Student Center Ballroom, more than 350 students from a variety of majors listened to a presentation from family members of John Clark, a 9-year-old from Mars who underwent heart transplant surgery in June 2024. They also had the opportunity to ask questions of the family and discuss Clark’s case as it applies to their respective disciplines.
The SRU Interprofessional Education Committee hosted the event, described as a “live case study,” so that students can learn how best to work together across multiple disciplines to provide better care for patients.
