The annual dance contest at Slippery Rock University that pairs students with members of the campus community has yet another go round. The popular “Dancing with the SRU Stars” occurred March 27, in Stoner West Dance Studio Theater.
The event is SRU’s version of the popular television show “Dancing with the Stars,” featuring students as the dancers, paired with SRU professors and staff members as the “stars.” Instead of a Mirror Ball trophy, the student from the winning couple is awarded a scholarship and their dance partner earns the title of SRU Star Dancer.
The 2025 overall winners were:
- Enoh Nkana, an assistant professor of curriculum, instruction and educational leadership, with Andrea Oakes, a sophomore dance major from Pinckney, Michigan. Oakes received a $500 scholarship.
The 2025 people’s choice winners were:
- Hye Ryung Won, an assistant professor of curriculum, instruction and educational leadership, with Abby Brubaker, a senior dance major from Lancaster. Brubaker received a $250 scholarship.
“Dancing with the SRU Stars” is sponsored by The SRU Dance Department and the National Honor Society of Dance Arts SRU Chapter and all proceeds benefit the National Honor Society of Dance Arts Rising Sophomore Dance Scholarship. Funding for the scholarship was provided by donors Deb and Eliott Baker.
The other participating partners included:
- Heather Hertel, a professor art, with Quinlyn Karns, a freshman dual dance and marketing major from Franklin.
- John Hicks, an associate professor of curriculum, instruction and educational leadership, with Madelyn Sheffel, a sophomore dual dance and mid-level mathematics major from Grove City.
- Krista White, an associate professor of languages, literatures, cultures and writing, with Macy Holmberg, a sophomore dance major from Smethport.
