Madelyn Sheffel’s commitment to service and leadership earned her a $25,000 scholarship as one of just 13 students nationwide selected as a Chick-fil-A Community Scholar.

Sheffel, a Slippery Rock University senior dual mid-level mathematics education and dance major from Grove City (Lincoln Park HS), received the scholarship from Chick-Fil-A as part of a program that recognizes outstanding academic achievement and community service.

Sheffel, whose parents were both diagnosed with cancer when Sheffel was 8 years old, is involved in community service initiatives, including cancer prevention outreach.

“Education creates opportunities that can help your future, and we’re honored to support and celebrate these remarkable students as they continue to grow, learn and serve others,” said Andrew Cathy, CEO of Chick-fil-A, Inc.

In addition to the scholarship, Chick-Fil-A Community Scholars participate in a year-long program focused on leadership development and mentoring.
