A Slippery Rock University student is performing on a New York City stage with selected dancers from all over the world. Lauren Mortimer, a senior dual dance and early childhood education major from Butler, was one of 33 dancemakers selected to have her work performed as part of the WHITE WAVE SoloDuo Dance Festival.
Mortimer will perform a dance she choreographed as part of an SRU class project titled “Breaking Barriers.” The festival is hosted by the WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company at the Dixon Place theater in New York City, and Mortimer will perform in the final program at 9 p.m., Feb. 14.
According to the WHITE WAVE Dance website, SoloDuo “celebrates the unique art of the solo and duet—formats often favored by early-stage choreographers as their companies begin to find their paths within the dance world. The Festival creates new opportunities to display the latest work of both emerging and mid-career choreographers, offering vivid experiences for audiences with the goal of discovering and nurturing young talent.”
Mortimer was selected by WHITE WAVE’s panel of presenters and dance professionals. In its ninth year, SoloDuo has featured dancemakers from the United States, Korea, Japan, China, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, England, Switzerland and Germany.
