PRSA Pittsburgh recognizes SRU as student chapter of the year

Slippery Rock University was well represented at the Public Relations Society of America Pittsburgh chapter Renaissance Awards, Jan. 31. The awards recognize greater Pittsburgh-area organizations and communicators for their innovative work in the field of public relations and marketing communication.

Rock PRSSA, the Public Relations Student Society of America chapter at SRU, received the PRSSA Chapter of the Year award, which recognizes the chapter that demonstrates outstanding leadership and commitment to the growth and success of its members. Allison Peiritsch, associate professor of strategic communication and media, is the chapter’s adviser.

Additionally, Aaliyah Thomas, a senior strategic communication and media major from Monaca, received PRSA Pittsburgh’s Bob O’Gara student scholarship award, and Ian Ponitz, a 2018 SRU graduate with a degree in communication, received PRSA Pittsburgh’s Rising Star Award, given to an outstanding professional with up to five years of professional experience. Ponitz is an account supervisor at the Havas Red US media agency.

Several other SRU alumni who now work at agencies like Burson, Havas Red, MindfulKreative, the Motherhood and Krakoff Communications, also won awards for their work.
