Summary of council of trustees meetings from March 20-21

Slippery Rock University’s council of trustees conducted its quarterly meetings, March 20-21, in the Russell Wright Alumni House and Conference Center.

The council voted on and approved the following executive action:

  • Capital budget submissions for fiscal year 2024-25. In accordance with Board of Governors policy, SRU annually submits capital projects to maintain their consideration for funding by Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education. The University has four renovation projects that, if approved at the state level, could be funded between fiscal years 2027-28 to 2030-31.

The Academic and Student Affairs Committee included presentations from the following administrators from their respective areas:

  • Michael Zieg, provost and vice president for academic affairs.
  • Christine Karshin, dean, College of Health Professions.
  • Michael May, vice president for enrollment management.
  • Ken Bach, senior director, University Marketing and Communication.
  • David Wilmes, vice president for student affairs.

The Governance Committee included:

  • A discussion about engaging the council in the University’s strategic plan process.

The Finance and Administrative Affairs Committee included:

  • A financial review of fiscal year 2024-25 by Carrie Birckbichler, vice president for finance and administration.
  • A request for action regarding the capital budget.
  • Information items regarding contracts, purchases, financial reports, facilities and planning projects, human resources personnel items and a divisional report.

The University Advancement Committee included presentations from the following administrators and representatives from their respective areas:

  • Troy Miller, vice president for university advancement.
  • Mike Zody, ’88, president of the Slippery Rock University Alumni Association.
  • Dave Hollenbaugh, executive director of the SRU Foundation, Inc., with Mark Palmer, chair, SRU Foundation Board of Directors, providing the foundation’s quarterly report.

At the quarterly business meeting, the council received the President’s Report, reports from its standing committees, and reviewed contracts, active projects for facilities and planning, human resources personnel items, and budget/finance updates and divisional reports.

There was also a presentation by Robert Zullo, assistant professor of sport management; Dallas Kline, assistant director of first-year admission; Mikayla Perry, a junior sport management major from Hamburg, New York; about a group of sport management students who worked at the Super Bowl in New Orleans last month.
