Slippery Rock University will host a Cyber Space Event, 12:30-2 p.m., April 22, at the Smith Student Center Ballroom, as well as on Zoom.
This free event is open to the public and sponsored by SRU’s Center for Cybersecurity and Advanced Computing, as well as SRU’s College of Engineering and Science and the Computer Science Department.
For those wishing to attend virtually, the online registration form must be completed to receive a Zoom link.
Alongside talks from cybersecurity experts, current SRU students will present scenarios, live software demonstrations and applications to address cybersecurity threats and challenges.
This year’s guest speaker is Timothy Vernick, a 2020 SRU graduate and cybersecurity professional with expertise in both technical and business strategy. He began his career at First National Bank as a cybersecurity specialist before joining Duquesne Light Company, where he played a key role in securing Pittsburgh’s electric grid. Now DLC’s supervisor of cybersecurity operations, Vernick focuses on developing strategies to protect critical infrastructure and combat evolving cybersecurity threats.
