Inspiring faculty leaders from Slippery Rock University united with colleagues across Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education at a statewide institute dedicated to advancing and empowering women in leadership. Nine faculty represented SRU at the PASSHE Women’s Consortium Faculty Leadership Institute July 27-30 in State College, Pennsylvania. Several faculty served as presenters and committee members.
SRU faculty members who participated included:
- Christine Pease-Hernandez, associate professor of strategic communication and media.
- Fadoua Loudiy, associate professor of strategic communication and media.
- Julie Naviaux, associate professor of languages, literatures, cultures, and writing.
- Melissa Swauger, professor of nonprofit management, empowerment, and diversity studies.
- Emily Keener, associate professor of psychology.
- Michelle Amodei, professor of curriculum, instruction, and educational leadership.
- Richelle Dykstra-Crookshanks, associate professor of nonprofit management, empowerment, and diversity studies.
- Emily Elliott, assistant professor of art.
- Lauren Shoemaker, associate professor of languages, literatures, cultures and writing.
Pease-Hernandez, Loudiy and Naviaux served as presenters and Swauger and Keener were planning committee members.
This four-day experience was designed to inspire, empower, and connect women across the State System under the institute’s theme of “leading together through circles of change.” Attendees took part in in sessions such as Making The Invisible Visible, Being True To Yourself in an Accelerated World, Building Collective Leadership, Change Through Community and Coalition, and Yoga for Mindful Leadership. Participants walked away from the event with tools for elevated leadership and a deepened commitment to advancing equity, collaboration and innovation at their universities.
