Merging elements of dance and visual arts, the Slippery Rock University Dance Department is preparing its signature 60×60 concert, presented in two performances at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Sept. 25 in the Dance Studio Theater of Stoner West.
The student-choreographed concert involves 60 one-minute performances of dance and visual art filmed by students.
Producer Andy Hasenpflug, a professor of dance at SRU, works closely with Vox Novus, the creators of the original 60×60 competition in New York City. Hasenpflug is one of the first producers to introduce dance to the concert style that was once exclusively for music.
Hasenpflug and Heather Hertel, a professor of art at SRU, collaborate with more than 80 students to arrange and assemble the content of 60×60.
“There’s a lot of variety, and it tends to be kind of weird,” Hasenpflug said. “It changes every minute. If you don’t like what you see, just wait 30 seconds and there’ll be something different.”
Tickets can be purchased online at sru.edu/tickets. Cost is $5.
