With the steady, ever-growing demand for health care workers, Slippery Rock University has committed to helping to address that need, not just through the courses offered on campus, but through outreach to local high schools, introducing their students to potential careers in the industry.

This marks the second year of SRU’s workshop series “Health Care Next Generation.” On Oct. 7, nearly 100 students from Slippery Rock, Grove City, Butler and Freeport high schools took part in learning labs about the roles of health care professionals like athletic trainers, physician assistants, physical therapists, recreational therapists, exercise scientists, occupational therapists, nurses and psychologists.

The high school students also visited local hospitals as part of the day’s activities, including Allegheny Health Network Grove City Hospital and Armstrong County Memorial Hospital in Kittanning.

More information about degree programs offered at SRU is available on the College of Health Professions webpage.
