High school artists in western Pennsylvania had the chance to submit their work as competition at Slippery Rock University’s Martha Gault Art Gallery for its annual High School Art Awards. The regional juried exhibit, Nov. 3-20, featured 125 accepted works from 317 submissions.
The artworks were adjudicated by faculty from the SRU Art Department. Students from 27 high schools submitted their work to be evaluated for one of seven awards, presented at the awards reception on Nov. 20.
Since 2011, the High School Arts Awards have been organized by Tricia Bishop, associate professor of art. The 2025 exhibit is the largest to date.
“There was a lot of fantastic work this year; it was not easy jurying it,” said Sean Macmillan, professor of art and department chair. “Supporting young artists in their endeavors is so important. I’m quite blown away by the quality of their work.”
Each winning student’s respective high school art teacher was also recognized for their mentorship and educational excellence.
