Slippery Rock University is seeking a student trustee after Charli Severo has spent the last two years advocating for and speaking on behalf of students as a member of the University’s council of trustees.

Severo, a senior political science major from Albion (Northwestern HS), will conclude her appointment upon graduating in May and the deadline for students to apply to replace her is Feb. 27.

Severo has cast the student vote on matters that affect the governance of the University. The student trustee fills the one seat on the 12-member COT designated for a full-time SRU undergraduate student.

“The student trustee is equal to the other trustees,” Severo said. “My vote counts the same as any one of their votes.”

Severo’s position allows her to represent the student voice and uphold the values her peers care about.

“Having the knowledge of a current student is really cool,” Severo said. “If I don’t like something, and I know it’s going to keep affecting us down the road, and I know other students are not going to like it, I can voice my opinion and give my vote for or against it.”

Severo’s campus friendships are what brought her to the council—the past two trustees were her classmates and peer mentors.

The previous trustees encouraged Severo to fill the role because of her diverse campus engagement. Since being selected, her personal connections have grown to reach  a variety of students of different demographics and majors.

“If you’re a go-getter and like meeting anyone and everyone, this job is for you,” Severo said.

To be eligible, applicants must be a full-time undergraduate student at SRU in good academic standing at the sophomore or above level and enrolled for at least 12 semester hours.

More information about the trustees and how to apply is available on the SRU website.
