Patrick McGinty, a Slippery Rock University associate professor of languages, literatures, cultures, and writing, earned the Window Keeper award from PA Humanities.
The Window Keeper is given to everyday people from Pennsylvania who bring communities together, encourage civic participation, and use storytelling to teach.
McGinty is one of 180 recipients across the state and the only representative from Butler County.
The award was inspired by the poem “The Window Keeper” by Yolanda Wisher, which compares the Declaration of Independence to a window that must be cleaned and maintained to function properly.
PA Humanities is an independent partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities and part of a network of 56 State Humanities Councils that spans the nation and U.S. jurisdictions.
More information about the Window Keeper award and a complete list of recipients is found on the PA Humanities website.
