Slippery Rock University faculty members Alessia Zanin-Yost, associate professor and health sciences librarian, and Allison Brungard, assistant professor and STEM librarian, recently took center stage at a major national conference, highlighting the University’s growing impact on library instruction and information literacy.
The specialized SRU librarians presented their collection of research at the LOEX Conference in Norfolk, Virginia, May 7-9. LOEX is one of the most respected and prestigious peer-reviewed information, literacy and instruction conferences for librarians in North America.
“It was a privilege to present at LOEX, a highly competitive national conference with a 34% acceptance rate,” said Zanin-Yost. “Seeing our session ranked among the top 20 in attendance and engaging in such rich dialogue with colleagues was both energizing and affirming. It’s gratifying to see our work at SRU resonate so strongly with colleagues.”
Zanin-Yost and Brungard’s session, titled “Investigating the Disappearance of Student Engagement with Library Research Guides,” explored why students often overlook research guides as their first stop for research, and highlighted strategies to improve visibility and engagement. Zanin‑Yost and Brungard received a professional development grant last year from Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education that supported their research.
