Slippery Rock University’s newest member of its council of trustee is Alex Momyer, a junior safety management major from Punxsutawney (Punxsutawney HS). Momyer was sworn during a ceremony in Old Main on April 28.
Momyer is now one piece of the 12-member COT, serving as the student voice on the University’s highest governing body. Momyer has the same voting privileges as the other trustees.
“I’ve seen so much of the University at different levels, so I have insights that allow me not to give my opinion, but to give the collective’s opinion,” Momyer said.
Momyer was selected based on a campuswide application and interview process. A selection committee consisting of three employee union representatives and a representative from the Slippery Rock Student Government Association recommended Momyer to SRU President Karen Riley. Riley approved the recommendation and forwarded Momyer’s name to the Office of the Chancellor of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education, which approved Momyer’s nomination.
A member of the U.S. Army ROTC program at SRU, Momyer currently serves as the president of the Green and White Society, uniting students with University alumni, and as a member of the ROTC color guard, playing a vital role in many of the traditions on campus. Momyer also serves as a leader in safety management clubs on campus, coordinating outreach and service events that build inroads between SRU and the greater community.
“SRU has such a tradition of success, and everyone here is called to rise to that challenge –– nobody is excluded,” Momyer said. “We want to push each student here to succeed, and that is important to me in this position.”
Momyer replaces Charli Severo, who served as a trustee for two years and will be graduating May 9. Momyer’s term will expire upon graduation.
