Six SRU students have artwork recognized at Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition

Artwork created by Slippery Rock University students is on displayed at SRU's Martha Gault Art Gallery as part of its 2025 Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition. SRU hosted an awards reception, March 3, to kick off the exhibition that is available for public viewing through April 7.

Nearly 50 pieces of artwork created by Slippery Rock University students are on display at the University’s Martha Gault Art Gallery as part of its 2025 Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition. SRU hosted an awards reception, March 3, and the exhibition is available for public viewing through April 7 at the gallery, located on the first floor of the Maltby Center at 108 Maltby Ave., which is open Mondays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Alyssa Velazquez, an assistant curator at the Carnegie Museum of Art, juried the artwork, which included an event-record 149 submissions, a third of which were selected for the exhibition. Valazquez selected winners that included first, second, and third place, as well as three honorable mentions:

  • First prize went to Vanessa Champion, a senior art major from Pittsburgh, for a mixed media submission titled “Portion Control.”
  • Second prize went to Taylor Godleski, a senior art major from Cranberry Township, for an acrylic and lipstick submission titled “Burning Desire.”
  • Third prize went to Sarah Preston, a senior art major from Butler, for an intaglio and gold leaf submission titled “Claire.”
  • An honorable mention went to Veronica Yeschke, a senior art major from West View, for an acrylic submission titled “Ferocity.” 
  • An honorable mention went to Link Berger, a senior art major from Oakmont, for a metal submission titled “Brothers.”
  • An honorable mention went to Bailey Lundmark, a junior art major from Russell, for a ceramic submission titled “Ouch!”
